"you can't learn cinematography and you can't copy it. the job is just your way of looking at the world." - roger deakins
Hi there. I’m a filmmaker working regularly across the United States, and my passion is telling visual stories that move people. I was born in a small city in Utah, and after seeing The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring by Peter Jackson, I knew what I wanted to do with my life. Growing up, I filled pretty much every available hour of my childhood with reading books, playing video games and watching movie after movie. When it came to fiction I couldn’t get enough, regardless of the medium. As soon as I could, I got my hands on a cheap camera and roped my friends into making little shorts that, at the time, seemed pretty good. I never really thanked them properly for putting up with me and being so supportive, so if you’re reading this guys, thanks. You’re a big part of the artist I’ve become today. Anyway, I directed my first official music video during high school and couldn’t wait to get out there and start filming “real” movies.
After graduating I got a job at a camera store and started studying digital media at Utah Valley University, where I’d gotten a scholarship. Pretty soon I chose to drop out of school and quit my day job to dedicate all of my time to pursuing a career in the film industry. I was very lucky to be the cinematographer for my first feature film just before I turned twenty-one. Since then, I’ve gotten to work on projects all over, including commercials, short films, a TV series, interviews for AMC's Sundance Channel, and two (soon to be three) feature films, winning a few awards and making a whole lot of friends along the way. Since I’ve always loved video games, I recently returned to school at The University of Utah to study Entertainment Arts and Engineering.
I’m currently working with Professor of Rock to help tell the stories behind some of the greatest songs ever created. I’ve been beyond fortunate to collaborate with many incredible artists there, including Kenny Loggins, Kevin Bacon, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Stephen Stills, Jason Mraz, Kenny Rogers, Steve Vai, Vanilla Ice, Eddie Money, Rick Springfield, Richard Marx, KT Tunstall, Edgar Winter, Howard Jones, Gary Numan, Norah Jones, Rodney Crowell, Emmylou Harris, Neil Sedaka, Johnny Mathis, Alan Parsons, Jimmy Jam, Narada Michael Walden, Bobby Brown, Martin Page, Andrew McMahon, Paul Young, Kenny Nolan, Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, Lzzy Hale, Siedah Garrett, Stephen Bishop, Lamont Dozier, Paul Rodgers, Gary Wright, Marc Cohn, Livingston Taylor, Rita Coolidge, Brian McKnight, Michelle Branch, Taylor Dayne, Tessa Violet, Kurt Vile, Patrick Leonard, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, and Ray Parker Jr, as well as members of the bands Hall & Oates, Journey, Kansas, Cake, Survivor, Spandau Ballet, REO Speedwagon, Santana, Foster the People, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Drive-By Truckers, The Black Crowes, 10,000 Maniacs, Three Dog Night, Heart, New Order, Joy Division, The Beach Boys, The Animals, The Supremes, Van Halen, The Doobie Brothers, KC & The Sunshine Band, Toto, Train, The Guess Who, America, Buffalo Springfield, Crowded House, The Byrds, Huey Lewis and the News, Blue Oyster Cult, Modern English, Men at Work, The Outfield, Cutting Crew, Berlin, The English Beat, Kajagoogoo, ABC, Bow Wow Wow, The Darkness, UB-40, Looking Glass, The Fixx, The Romantics, Starship, The B-52's, Ambrosia, Def Leppard, Canned Heat, the Runaways, Jane’s Addiction, Ultravox, Bad Religion, Stiff Little Fingers, Goo Goo Dolls, Thin Lizzy, Foghat, Wild Cherry, 3 Doors Down, Tommy James and the Shondells, Blue October, Collective Soul, Third Eye Blind, Gin Blossoms, The Youngbloods, the Yardbirds, The Rascals, AWOLNATION, Night Ranger, Little Anthony and the Imperials, The 1975, The 5th Dimension, They Might Be Giants, Barenaked Ladies, Anthrax, Panic!
